Dr. Tania J. Phillips

Dr. Tania Phillips completed her medical training at Guys Hospital Medical School, University of London, in London England. During this time she also did an intercalated B.Sc., Honours Program in physiology and immunology. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians, Dr. Phillips trained in Dermatology at the London Hospital and also had an appointment at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin.

She later became a Dermatology Fellow at Boston University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, where she helped to pioneer the use of skin substitutes and “artificial skin” in the treatment of skin wounds. She subsequently joined the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine where she served on the full time faculty in the department of Dermatology for over 20 years. She is Professor of Dermatology at the BU Medical School, directed the Clinical Research Center in the Department of Dermatology there for 16 years, and she remains director of the Wound Healing Clinic at Boston Medical Center.

A dermatologist in the Boston area at SkinCare Physicians, Dr. Phillips is an international expert in wound healing, particularly in the use of cultured skin and skin substitutes, skin aging and general dermatology. She has won numerous awards and prizes including the Venous Research Award of the American Venous Forum and the Young Investigator Award of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has lectured at numerous national and international meetings and is on the editorial board of the journals Wounds and Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Phillips has served as a panel member and consultant to the FDA General and Plastic Surgery Devices Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Medical Research Planning Committee as well as the Symposium of Advanced Wound Care Planning Committee. She is a past president of the New England Dermatological Society and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Dermatologic Society and the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care. Dr. Phillips has co-authored three books and over 250 scientific publications. She has been recognized as one of the leading dermatologists in the Boston area by Boston Magazine.
