Jason Rivers,
MD
Jason K. Rivers MD, FRCPC, is a Professor of Dermatology at the University
of British Columbia. He qualified as a dermatologist in Ottawa in 1986.
Subsequently, Dr. Rivers spent one year at the Skin and Cancer Unit
at New York University where he undertook research into pigmented lesions
of the skin. He also worked for two years in Australia where he was
involved in research into melanoma skin cancer, the most lethal form
of the disease. Based at the Sydney Melanoma Unit, Dr, Rivers became
involved in the Australian skin cancer prevention campaigns, which included
beach skin cancer screenings.
Dr. Rivers served
for seven years as national director of the Canadian Dermatology Association's
Sun Awareness Program. During this time, he presented a paper on ozone
depletion, UV and the skin to the House of Commons Hearing on Ozone
Depletion. Dr. Rivers also participated in Environment Canada's forum
to develop the UV index. His current practice includes cutaneous oncology,
general dermatology, laser, and cosmetic dermatology. He has participated
in clinical research for more than 15 years and has published more than
130 articles.
